Black Psychedelic Revolution: Imagine Malcolm X on LSD. Join us at Starr Bar for a fascinating talk by Dr. Nicholas Powers on psychedelics and Black Revolutionary History and Theory.
He will share how healing in private therapy shares the dynamics of social movements. The surprising gift that psychedelic therapy offers is to spark change with utopian visions rather than the horror of a Moral Crisis like police killings. Hope can be a
more sustainable drive than rage or fear. See you there! Wednesday April 17th at 5:30pm.
Happy solar eclipse y’all! This week we celebrate Aries with the dope monthly party @zodiacaphrodisiac on Saturday. Lots of great things happening before we get there. Check it! #bushwick #nightlife

Tonight! @theindypendent and @starrbarbk are hosting a screening of the new film, Israelism. Younger Jewish Americans are increasingly breaking with their community’s uncritical support for Israel to demand justice for Palestinians. Then stick around for a panel discussion featuring @eva_bella_ of @ifnotnoworg , @esther.farmer.7 of @jvpny and @alexbkane of @jewishcurrentsmag
Amazing breakdancing battle for Gaza this past week! Next up: a film screening of “Israelism” with members of Jewish Voice for Peace and If Not Now on the panel. Also, we fundraise for @maydayspace Festival of Resistance this Wednesday for happy hour. Cheers to that!
This week we laugh, we learn, we grieve, we sing, we celebrate Pisces and we breakdance all at once. We are also saying goodbye to our beloved barback Ned who is leaving NYC for greener pastures. Good luck out there, Ned! ❤️👋
Tonight, join Starr Bar and @theindypendent for the second in a series of film screenings and panel discussions aimed at fostering better understanding of Israel’s 75 year occupation of Palestine.
We will screen the documentary film, Born in Gaza. The film follows the story of ten children, revealing what their daily life was like after the horror of the 2014 war in Gaza.
The panel discussion that will follow the film will focus on life in Gaza pre-October 7th, including its beauty, culture and history. With in-depth knowledge of Gaza, the panelists will also describe the siege that Israel imposed on the Gaza Strip in 2006 following its withdrawal and Hamas’ election win. As Egypt prepares the Sinai Desert for potential Palestinian refugees in what is being described as the Second Nakba, we will also examine Israel’s ultimate goals with the current war.
Panelists:
Farah Barqawi is a Palestinian author, performer, and organizer. Her mother is in Gaza City.
Sarah Aziza is a Palestinian American writer who splits her time between NYC and the Middle East.
Sharif Abdel Kouddous is an Egyptian-American journalist who has reported from the Gaza Strip.
Amba Guerguerian, editor of The Indypendent, will moderate.
